Vintage CFH French Oyster Plate

A French oyster plate from 1889, hand-painted with seaweed. It's marked CFH (Charles Field Haviland), and the painting is so delicate it looks like a watercolor of the sea. The scalloped edge is brushed with gold, and the wells are made for oysters on the half shell, with a round well in the center for a lemon wedge or a little mignonette.
We love it on a dinner table for a special oyster night, or on its own as a first course. Hung on a wall or propped on a shelf, it's also a pretty piece of sea-inspired art in a dining room, bar, or kitchen.
This is the kind of piece that makes a plate of oysters feel like an occasion.
