Spring Cleaning: How to Freshen Up Your Home For Spring

The clocks change, the afternoons stretch out, and for me, the urge to clean out and refresh comes on STRONG.

I am a big fan of using what I have and adding in a few fresh new things to lighten up the look and feel. I also appreciate a good spring clean out of my closets, drawers and general clutter. I want to truly lighten the domestic load.

Around the House

I do not decorate seasonally or change home decor pieces for different times of the year, but I do find myself gravitating to different colored vases, seasonal-ish candle scents, specific types of patterns for table linens, etc....  For spring and summer florals, I like to use woven vases, especially this one that its only available at Two Webster. I also will use glass or ceramic vases/pitchers in brighter or lighter tones. Maaayybe I will switch out my countertop fruit bowl from one shade of resin bowl to another! My favorite candles come in a few select fragrances -- in the winter I love the Spruced scent but for spring I like Summer Nights, Savannah or Japanese Garden. My twelve-month a year scent is Cheers. It's always a good choice in my opinion! On my table I will use a brighter cloth and fun napkins to lighten the visual when we sit down to dinner.

Closet/Drawers/Organization

When the seasons change and I reach for lighter colored pieces of clothing, I always take a few hours to go through my closet and drawers to analyze what I wore the previous season. If something sat untouched for 2 years, I generally donate it unless it is a special piece or something event specific. I have more than enough clothes so it feels good to give things to those less fortunate. I also go through my bathroom products. I am a product junkie and I love to try new things skincare and makeup related. I pitch the things that don't work for me and keep the ones that do. I also get rid of expired medicines and general bathroom clutter that builds up. Where I fall down is in the home office. I hate to go through files and paperwork. This is something I need to work on!

My Newest Home Obsession

I have decided to go through my pots and pans to truly create a non-toxic kitchen. This is not easy because some of my pots and pans I love. But if they are making us sick, then they have to go. I also love my plastic "tupperware" but am slowly transitioning to nontoxic storage. I just like the lightweight of the plastic because it's easy to schlep around when I go back and forth to Vermont. So I am testing out a few things storage and cooking related. There will be more thoughts to come on that front.
