I love a great "mix and match" moment! Grab some swatches or napkins and play around. See what feels right to your eye, and go with it.
One of my favorite things to do is play around with different patterns and colors. I can spend hours layering different looks -- I think it's my form of creativity.
Here are some of the things inspiring my current mix and match sessions:
- Layer contrasting, yet color coordinating linens on a table. The napkins and tablecloth do not have to be from the same designer to work on a tablescape.
- Move around throw pillows from sofa to chair, room to room. Again, fabrics do not have to be from the same designer to work together.
- Add in texture. I think layering pieces (think basket under a vase or candle) is another way of playing the mix and match game.
- Grab a patterned or textured tray and fill it with books, a vase and a candle. Set the tray on your coffee table, ottoman or console table to add a varied moment.
- Bedding -- throw pillows can be tossed in with shams, you can add a blanket. Have a small sofa or bench at the end of the bed? Fill it with more throw pillows.
- I tend to gravitate to abstract colorful art -- to my eye it is another form of pattern play and color drenching for your room.
