How to be a GREAT Guest

Summer is (almost) here and it is a time for travel and a time for visits -- both hosting and visiting.

Here are some tips to make sure you get invited back!

As you know, we have a summer home on Cape Cod and it often feels like a revolving door from Memorial Day to Labor Day. From dinners to overnight guests and a house full of kids, I often feel like all I do at home is cook, clean and laundry. The house is filled with laughter - I love it!

I have learned not to be shy about what guests can do to help me make their stay more enjoyable. If I need help in the kitchen I let someone know. I ask them to strip their beds and gather their towels. I want our guests to feel comfortable in our home, and I think it is perfectly OK to ask for simple household help.

Now, let me be clear, I do not expect hostess gifts to be given to me -- but I love to give them. I have put together some ideas that I think will get you invited back time after time. Gifts can range from simply thoughtful to over-the-top -- all depending on the length of stay and closeness of the relationship (a meal to several nights away...)
