Oh My God, want to know what I am so HERE FOR? The Wishbone Kitchen Heirloom Tomato Galette. It might be the best thing I have eaten ALL summer! In Massachusetts, the tomatoes are peaking and my pots of basil are overflowing. In full disclosure, my son’s girlfriend prepped everything and then our plans changed because the oven wouldn’t heat up. So…. with everything ready to go, I only had to put it together. She made me homemade pesto with walnuts instead of pine nuts because Whole Foods was out of pine nuts (grrr) — and it was delicious. Here on the Cape, I do not have a rolling pin — will fix that today — so I used a cup to roll out the dough. Multicolored heirlooms made it pretty and oh so tasty. Lot’s of parm layered throughout and burrata on top.
The other thing I am here for this week is the pace in the store. Truthfully it has been a weird summer in the shop. Numbers are good but the pace and foot traffic has been down. This week that changed. Doubtful it will last as we are nearing the end of August, the week was fun — and chaotic — all at once. I love seeing familiar faces and meeting new clients. And the craziness reminds me that the hustle and bustle is what drives me.
What I’m not here for…. This is a random one but it is driving me CRAZY! There is a tree outside my store. It flowers in August and quickly sheds its petals. The shedding is out of control this year and the amount of petals on the sidewalk is several inches deep. The town or the landlord should take care of this but they have not. I am out there sweeping and making piles for someone to pick up, but no one does! Let’s not even discuss the amount of petals tracked into the store….
What are you here for (or not) this week?
