Welcome to Around my Table, a monthly post where I will share foods I'm cooking, a table I set (if I entertained that month) and tidbits that are on my mind.
February
Last weekend we had some friends over for dinner up in Vermont. When I entertain in Vermont I have a limited amount of things with which to "jeuge" the table. I used my all time favorite Summerill & Bishop Tablecloth with their fun striped napkins. Filled two Stephanie Grace vases (because I only had two -- even though three would have looked better), found some old candlesticks and votives of my mom's and threw a bunch of candy on the table. Valentine's Day is coming up after all...
Before dinner I threw together a cheese & charcuterie platter using one of my newest pieces which has quickly become a favorite. This platter from Zsuzanna Nyul is simply gorgeous -- Hungarian folk inspired, handmade, signed, etc.... It hits all the "things." Again, I was limited in what I had for ingredients and fun extras to make the cheese pop but delicious Vermont made cheese and sausage doesn't need much to make it better!
For the meal I served my favorite Bolognese sauce from Marcella Hazan. I actually made a double batch in January and froze it in batches so I could have it to easily serve for Après ski nights. I am a big fan of "helping my future self" in the kitchen. Add salad and some bread, and the meal is complete. For dessert we had the Lake Champlain chocolates on the table.
What's on my mind this month.... I am gearing up for winter trunk shows. I will be open at Stephanie Grace Ceramics in Waitsfield, VT for the President's Week. The following week I head to Charleston for a trunk show and the following week to Boca Grande. If you are in either spot, let me know and I will send you dates.
